WashU Men’s Basketball Secures Commitment from Kingswood Oxford Star Stryckland Whittley Ligon

ST. LOUIS, MO — The Washington University in St. Louis men’s basketball program has landed a major commitment from Stryckland Whittley Ligon, a 6'5" wing/forward from Kingswood Oxford School (CT). One of the most versatile and physically gifted prospects in New England, Whittley Ligon brings a blend of strength, explosiveness, and matchup versatility that projects to make an immediate impact in the UAA — one of the nation’s premier Division III basketball conferences.

“I am beyond blessd to annouce my committment to Washington University (WashU) to play basketball. I want to thank my parents and family for all their support, time, and patience as they have always been my #1 Fans. I also want to thank all my coaches and trainers that have helped me grow and develop. A special thank you to Brad Seaman, Head Coach at Kingswood Oxford School, Michael Crotty, CEO and coaches from my AAU Teams, Middlesex Magic (Mass.), as well as Brian/Liz, my trainers from B Sports Performance (CT). It is now, full court press towards my future at Washington University (WashU),” said Whittley Ligon.

A Matchup Nightmare on Offense

Stryckland’s offensive game makes him extremely difficult to guard. His strength and physicality allow him to overpower smaller defenders on the block, while his quickness and perimeter agility let him blow by bigger defenders off the bounce. He consistently gets downhill, collapses defenses, and creates scoring opportunities for himself and teammates.

Defensive Versatility and High-Level Impact

On the defensive end, Stryckland uses that same speed, length, and athleticism to guard multiple positions. Whether switching onto smaller guards or battling with bigger forwards, he brings intensity, versatility, and a commitment to winning plays.

National Exposure Through Hoop Group & Real Hoops

Stryckland built significant momentum on the Hoop Group HGSL circuit, competing for the Middlesex Magic HGAL team and showcasing his ability against top national talent. His recruiting profile exploded this past fall at the Real Hoops “New England Connection Camp,” where he delivered a dominant performance in front of college coaches — including WashU assistant coach Pat McGrail, who identified him early and built a strong relationship with Whittley and his family throughout the process.

A Proud Family Moment

His parents shared an emotional reflection on the journey:

“Proud is an understatement. It didn't always come easy, but you showed up every single day and pushed yourself because you wanted more for yourself, and it showed in your game. This isn't the end, just the start of a new beginning. It has been a priviledge as your parents to watch you grow as a player these last 4 years at Kingswood Oxford. We've seen you inspire so many younger athletes. Coaches have told us for years that Stryckland never gives them any probelms. You do what is asked and you always give 100%. It's the work ethic. We are excited to see what the future has in store for you, as you embark on your next chapter at Washington University (WashU). We are so proud of you, son.”

Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll on Stryckland’s Commitment

“It was a pleasure to work with Stryckland and his family to assist in navigating the recruiting process. He had so many great choices to choose from, but seeing what WashU had to offer academically and athletically put them over the top. We couldn’t be happier for Stryckland and his family,” said Kevin Driscoll, CEO of Real Hoops.

Driscoll added:

“The recruiting process can be difficult, but Stryckland prevailed with confidence and perseverance. He made a life-changing choice that positions him for success on and off the court.”

A Major Addition for the Bears

With his combination of size, athleticism, IQ, and toughness, Stryckland Whittley Ligon arrives at Washington University as a high-upside prospect poised to thrive in one of the nation’s most competitive basketball environments.

Real Hoops congratulates Stryckland and his family on an exceptional achievement — and the beginning of an exciting collegiate journey.
