Pacifica Christian Guard Austin Brinker Commits to Johns Hopkins University

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Austin Brinker, from Pacifica Christian High School, has committed to Johns Hopkins University. A high academic standout with a 4.5 GPA and a 34 ACT, Austin brings a rare blend of size, shooting, and elite decision making to one of the top programs in Division III basketball. Austin projects as a versatile piece who can space the floor, attack closeouts, and impact winning in multiple ways on both ends of the court.

“Committing to Johns Hopkins was a no brainer for me,” said Austin. “When I first got on the phone with Coach Cain and he broke down the culture and what the future of Johns Hopkins Basketball was going to look like, I was beyond interested. Compared to other schools I visited, Hopkins truly felt the most like home, and the resources on and off the court were incomparable. I am beyond excited to play for Coach Cain and the rest of the staff and I am looking forward to making an immediate impact and winning a lot of games.”

Knockdown Shooting with Size and Scoring Versatility

Austin is a rangy wing who can really shoot the ball and stretch defenses with his perimeter scoring. He knocks down threes consistently, and he is more than just a spot up threat who can straight line drive, finish above the rim, and score at all three levels. His ability to impact the game in transition and in the halfcourt gives Johns Hopkins a dangerous weapon defenses have to account for every possession.

High IQ Connector Who Makes Teammates Better

What stands out as well is Austin’s feel and reliability as a decision maker. He plays with high IQ, makes the right play consistently, and takes pride in moving the ball to create a great shot for a teammate. As a skilled passer who loves delivering the right read, he raises the level of the group and fits seamlessly into winning team basketball.

National Exposure Through Real Hoops

Austin worked closely with Real Hoops and CEO Kevin Driscoll on college strategy throughout the recruiting process, helping him identify the best fit academically and athletically. With clear guidance on how to communicate his value, target the right opportunities, and navigate each step of recruitment, Austin found an exceptional home at Johns Hopkins, pairing elite academics with a high level basketball program.

Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll on Austin’s Commitment

“Austin is the kind of wing every coach wants because he brings size, shot making, and a team first mindset that makes the game easier for everyone around him,” said Kevin Driscoll, CEO of Real Hoops. “He was intentional throughout the process and stayed focused on finding the right fit. Johns Hopkins is getting a high character competitor who will impact winning early and keep improving.”

A Major Addition for Johns Hopkins

Austin gives Johns Hopkins a versatile wing who can shoot it at a high level, attack gaps, and finish with athleticism. His passing instincts and consistent decision making fit the style of a program that values smart, connected basketball. With his high energy approach and ability to contribute in multiple roles, he arrives ready to help the Blue Jays win right away.
