Penncrest High School All-State Forward Mikey Mita Commits to Carnegie Mellon University
MEDIA, PA — Carnegie Mellon University has landed a commitment from Mikey Mita, a 2026 All-State wing from Penncrest High School (PA) and the East Coast Cyclones. At 6’7”, 213 pounds, Mikey brings a winning combination of physicality, skill, and high-level basketball IQ—along with the energy and leadership that have made him a staple in Penncrest’s success. A high-academic standout (3.92 unweighted GPA, 1320 SAT), he heads to Carnegie Mellon as a complete student-athlete built for the demands of the classroom and the court.
“Academics were one of the biggest reasons I chose Carnegie Mellon,” said Mikey. “I know the ball is going to stop bouncing eventually, and I wanted to be somewhere that sets me up for what’s next and gives me a great opportunity after college. I also loved the coaches—Coach Simon and Coach Martinelli really cared, put in a ton of effort recruiting me, and they showed up consistently to my games whether it was AAU or with my high school team. That meant a lot, and I’m excited to get to work.”
High-Energy Motor and Winning Impact
Mikey plays with nonstop energy on both ends, always in motion, setting screens, creating extra possessions, and making hustle plays that swing momentum. He celebrates the dirty-work moments just as much as the big buckets, and his presence is felt in the details: physical rebounding, timely stops, and relentless effort. That motor consistently translates in big environments, where he’s proven he can produce while staying true to team basketball.
Skilled 6’7 Combo Forward with High IQ and Free-Throw Pressure
Offensively, Mikey is a tough, highly-skilled combo forward who thrives within structure and reads the game at a high level. He’s shown he can be dominant in screening actions and putting defenders in tough spots with physical drives that get him to the free-throw line. With the ability to step out and stretch the floor, finish through contact, and contribute across the box score, he brings a versatile package that fits winning college basketball.
National Exposure Through Real Hoops
Mikey’s profile continued to grow through strong performances in major events and consistent development behind the scenes. Real Hoops played a key role in helping his family navigate the recruiting process—from outreach and showcase selection to detailed video evaluations that strengthened his game. Those tape reviews and development feedback helped Mikey become a smarter, more efficient player, while also ensuring the right high-academic college programs had a clear view of his impact and long-term upside.
A Proud Family Moment
“Working with Real Hoop Recruit completely transformed our family's experience with the college basketball recruiting process, which felt overwhelming and confusing at every turn,” said Mike Mita, Mikey’s father. “Their expert guidance walked us step-by-step through emails, coach outreach, showcase selection, and everything in between, ultimately leading to my son earning a spot on the Carnegie Mellon roster. Beyond the recruiting help, their detailed video tape reviews and player development feedback made him a noticeably better, smarter basketball player on the court. We couldn't be more grateful for Real Hoops—we truly believe our outcome wouldn't have happened without them.”
Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll on Mikey’s Commitment
“Mikey is the kind of high-academic recruit every coach wants—tough, highly skilled, and wired to do winning things,” said Kevin Driscoll, CEO of Real Hoops. “His energy, IQ, and leadership jump out immediately, and he consistently turns feedback into improvement. Carnegie Mellon is getting a versatile 6’7 forward who impacts the game in multiple ways and raises the standard in the gym.”
A Major Addition for Carnegie Mellon
Mikey arrives at CMU as a physical, high-IQ forward who can rebound, stretch the floor, and create real pressure with his strength and motor. His ability to thrive in structured offense, live at the free-throw line, and make winning plays makes him an ideal fit for the Tartans. Just as important, his work ethic, selfless approach, and leadership project to elevate the program culture from day one. Carnegie Mellon is adding a complete student-athlete with the tools to contribute early and keep growing.
