Acalanes High School guard Cameron Hood commits to Whitworth University
LAFAYETTE, CA — Cameron Hood, a point guard from Acalanes High School in California, has committed to Whitworth University. The lefty playmaker can score from all three levels while bringing dynamic shot making, downhill speed, and pick and roll creation that translates to the college game. With his ability to get into the paint, draw defenders, and generate quality looks for teammates, he arrives as an aggressive lead guard who can impact winning right away.
“First off, I want to thank my family, coaches, and everyone who supported me through this process,” said Cameron. “Committing to Whitworth felt like the right decision for me, both on and off the court. I chose Whitworth because of the coaching staff, the culture, and how they believe in my game and my development. It really felt like home when I was there.”
Lefty shot maker who creates offense in pick and roll
Cameron is a confident shot creator who thrives with the ball in his hands. He can hit threes off the dribble, use a variety of perimeter moves to get to his pull up, and attack into the midrange when defenders try to take away the arc. He also mixes in a reliable floater and finishes at the rim with touch, giving him a complete scoring package that keeps defenses guessing.
Downhill speed and disruptive two way edge
Cameron’s speed and athleticism show up in transition where he gets downhill fast and turns advantage into points or easy assists. In the half court, that same burst helps him collapse the defense and open up passing windows for teammates. Defensively, he plays with real aggressiveness, using quickness and strength to apply pressure, disrupt actions, and force turnovers that lead to run outs.
National Exposure Through Real Hoops
Cameron worked with Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll through film study, using consistent breakdowns to sharpen decision making, pace, and reads as a primary ball handler. That film work helped him become more efficient as a scorer, more precise as a playmaker, and more impactful on both ends. The combination of development and visibility helped Cameron find a great fit at Whitworth.
Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll on Cameron’s commitment
“Cameron is a fearless lefty guard who can really create offense, and what stood out to me was how quickly he turned film study into better reads and better shots,” said Kevin Driscoll, CEO of Real Hoops. “He is dangerous in pick and roll, he plays with pace, and he competes defensively. Whitworth is getting a playmaking guard who is built to keep improving.”
A major addition for Whitworth University
Cameron gives Whitworth a lead guard who can score at all three levels and create advantages with speed and shot making. His ability to shoot off the dribble, get into the paint, and set up teammates fits winning basketball and should translate quickly. Add in his defensive pressure and aggressive mindset, and he projects as a guard who can impact games early and grow into a big role.
