Fairmont Prep point guard Jacob Hsu commits to Occidental College

IRVINE, CA — Jacob Hsu, a point guard from Fairmont Prep in California, has committed to Occidental College. A 5 foot 11 guard with deep shooting range and steady ball handling, Jacob brings elite three point production and offensive versatility to the next level. After the introduction, Jacob projects as a positive contributor who can stretch the floor, create off the dribble, and play with the pace and control coaches want from a lead guard.

Deep range shooting that changes spacing

Jacob is a high level three point shooter who made 65 threes this season, an outstanding number that reflects both volume and consistency. He can knock down shots off the catch, off the dribble, and on the move, getting to balance quickly with sharp footwork and a quick release. That ability to score from deep forces defenses to extend, creating more space for teammates and opening driving lanes for the offense.

Three level scoring with quickness and pick and roll feel

Beyond the three point line, Jacob is a true three level scorer who can get to a mid range pull up, a floater, or all the way to the rim. His quickness helps him create advantages in transition and in the half court, and he is comfortable operating in pick and roll as both a scorer and passer. He makes quick reads, keeps the game under control, and delivers the ball on time to create quality looks for others.

National Exposure Through Real Hoops

Jacob worked with Real Hoops and CEO Kevin Driscoll through film study and development, focusing on decision making, defensive impact, and leading a team. That process helped him sharpen how he manages possessions, improve the quality of his shot selection, and add more consistency to his defensive presence. The combination of production and development support positioned Jacob well for the next step at Occidental.

Real Hoops CEO Kevin Driscoll on Jacob’s commitment

“Jacob’s shooting range is real, but what I like most is how coachable he is and how quickly he applied film study to become a better decision maker,” said Kevin Driscoll, CEO of Real Hoops. “He can score at all three levels, he plays fast without rushing, and his growth as a leader and defender will translate well at Occidental.”

A major addition for Occidental College

Jacob gives Occidental a guard who can stretch defenses with deep range and create efficient offense with quick reads and steady handling. His ability to shoot on the move and punish tight windows adds real value in both transition and half court settings. With continued growth as a defender and leader, he brings the kind of skillset that fits winning college basketball.
